The facelift of its multi-purpose hall into an ultra-modern edifice is a commendable aspiration that brings relief to residents who thirst for services. The Bo District Council is set for a revamp in its source of revenue. For so long, the facility has remained dilapidated, thanks to the intervention of the World Bank, through the Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery Project- phase 2.
According to the Chief Administrator, Vivian Sally Senesie, the facelift of the Main Sewa Road hall would greatly impact the revenue base of the Council, citing its strategic location and source of attraction to clients who prioritize aesthetics. Important events like banquets, seminars, wedding receptions, and other social functions will be hosted in this facility.
She underscored the socio-economic impacts the facility is set to offer, stating that the local economy would be improved through the hosting of events that would create a market niche for petty traders, thereby boosting their livelihoods.
The District Council Chairman, Victor Korseh Hindowa, recounted some of the challenges encountered upon resumption of office. He highlighted funds as a key challenge, and that such is a reason his administration has robustly engaged in strengthening its revenue sources. “The people of Bo require more services and deserve better, which is why we want to become more, as a Council, so we can offer more. You cannot give what you don’t have. ” Chairman Hindowa affirmed.
Chairman Hindowa revealed plans to construct shops on the frontage of the Main Sewa Road and other strategic locations across the municipality of Bo in a quest to boost the revenue base of the Council. He added that his objective is to saturate the Bo District Council with revenue enough that adequately address its problems.
The late disbursement of funds to Local Councils is an indication of donor fatigue and overburdening of the Central Government. These are signals that call for a proactive step towards reducing over-reliance on donor and the Central Government’s grants. “A visionary leader plans for the future and does not get to wait for things to go bad.” He stated.
The ultra-modern facility is said to be offered at an affordable price that renders both service and accrues revenue for the Council.
